Keeping Produce Fresh - One Cold Room at a Time

At Baridi, we believe no one should lose income or opportunity just because they couldn't keep their products cold. In regions where electricity is unreliable or unavailable, we provide solar-powered cold storage solutions that help people protect what they produce, extend shelf life, and unlock new markets. We provide customised and truly sustainable chilling and freezing off-grid solar-powered technologies to enable energy independence and ensure fresh, safe products across livestock, horticulture, dairy and fish value chains.

Who we are

Name Origin

"Baridi" means "cold" in Swahili

BARIDI is a Kenyan-based startup founded in 2021.

Initially set up to provide solar mini-grids for pastoralist communities, we quickly realized how essential cold storage is to everyday life and livelihoods. We became one of the first to introduce relevant, off-grid refrigeration solutions for the livestock value chain in Kenya.

Today, we design and install cold storage units that run fully off-grid, helping businesses and communities across meat, dairy, fish, and horticultural sectors reduce spoilage and protect their income.

The market for chilling and freezing in Sub-Saharan Africa remains vastly underserved, but since our inception, we’ve met these challenges head-on with successful projects across the region.

Our Vision

Solarizing Africa's Cold Chain

Our Mission

To accelerate reduced wastage and lowered energy costs in Sub Saharan Africa food value chains, catalysing wealth creation and social equality
